Who are you, and what are you doing here at Flasheye?
I’m Ellen, a Junior Developer, and I am creating a simulator to build our own custom environments and sensors to see how they would behave in real life.
You’re currently studying now. What are you studying, and why did you choose to do so?
I’m also in my 3rd year of studying Computer Science and have just chosen a Master’s in the field of Information and Communication. I originally moved to Luleå to study architecture with the idea of planning cities. Still, I found that the studies didn’t suit me, so I happened upon Computer Science. I love problem-solving and feel that is a strength of mine, which transfers from architecture and Computer Science pretty well, I think!
What about Flasheye attracted you in the first place, and how has your experience been so far?
I think the beauty of the LiDAR point clouds was what struck me initially because I didn’t know so many details about the technology itself! Even so, the presentation and follow-up meeting cleared things up a lot for me and made me very interested in learning more, which is much easier with Flasheye being a smaller company.
Knowing what you know about LiDAR as a technology, tell me what you think is the most exciting thing LiDAR could be/is currently used for.
It’s really hard to narrow down a single thing, to be honest! The most exciting thing about LiDAR is that it has so many applications already and potentially many more. My dentist even used LiDAR to scan the shape of my mouth for a retainer instead of a mould. I know of quite a few applications of LiDAR, but that was a surprise! It was a much more comfortable experience for me, and I imagine it saved the dentist a lot of time and money that would have been spent on materials.
So with LiDAR, it feels like it’s only really limited by our own imagination.
So we have Ellen at Flasheye, but who is Ellen at home? What are some hobbies or interests you have that we or others might not know about?
Ellen at Flasheye would not wear sweatpants, but Ellen at home is definitely wearing sweatpants. Sweatpants Ellen is the Ellenest Ellen.
I also love powerlifting! Mostly just for the feeling of being strong and capable and constantly setting and overcoming goals. One of those goals is to be able to squat 100kg!
